visual health eye exam in arlington vaRegardless of your age or physical health, our experienced optometric team recognizes the importance of a regular eye exam in Arlington, VA, with additional optometrist offices in Woodbridge, VA, Ashburn, VA, Fairfax, VA and Springfield, VA. As part of our comprehensive Eye Exam in Arlington, VA, our optometrist will evaluate the health of your eyes using different tests with special diagnostic equipment. Here is what you can expect with your initial eye exam by our expert eye care team:

1) Comprehensive Analysis of Your Visual Needs

Our optometrist will assess the quality of your vision by measuring your depth perception, as well as your ability to focus on both near and distant objects. The external and internal parts of the eyes are examined using special instruments like a slit lamp biomicroscope, binocular indirect ophthalmoscope and specialized lenses. Your pupils may be dilated with eye drops for some of these tests. Our optometrist will also screen you for common eye diseases and evaluate your overall eye health.

2) In-Depth Prescription Determination

For this part of your eye exam, our optometrist will refract your eyes, which is the process of determining your eyeglass or contact lens prescription. In order to prescribe the exact prescription that will work best for your eyes, we use computerized equipment to perform various measurements. These tests help our optometrist to understand how your eyes function for both work and leisure.

3) Glaucoma Screening

As part of your comprehensive eye exam in Arlington, VA, Ashburn, VA, Woodbridge, VA, Fairfax, VA or Springfield, VA, our optometrist will measure your eye pressure with a tonometry device. This procedure includes a gentle “air puff” test to evaluate your eye’s fluid pressure – an elevated pressure can mean a risk factor for glaucoma. It is important to let our optometrist know if you have any family members who have glaucoma, as a family history can greatly increase your own risk of developing this disease in your lifetime.

4) Eye Health Photography

Using our state-of-the-art ocular photographic equipment, we are able to obtain advanced digital images of the back of your eye, which allows us to detect and manage diseases such as glaucoma, diabetes and macular degeneration.

5) Visual Field Testing*

Our optometrist will measure of your peripheral vision, which is your ability to see objects and movement on either side of your direct line of vision. We sometimes refer to peripheral vision as what you can see “out of the corner of your eye” while looking straight ahead. This test also helps your doctor to assess the health of your eye’s optic nerve.

I went in for a contact lens exam. The optometrist was great. Very knowledgeable. Took the time to educate me on visual acuity. Was a great resource from a Physician's standpoint. I was leaving for a trip to Costa Rica the following day and was give 10 days worth of contact lens to try. Will return next week to let him know things worked out well and will try another brand of lens!- Naheed M. best-ashburn-arlington-woodbrifge-fairfax-springfield-vienna-va-optometry
Excellent and attentive! I waited for all of five minutes after showing up early to my appointment, and everyone who worked there gave very thorough and detailed explanations of what tests were happening, why, and what the costs were. I've never had such a positive experience at an eye provider. I would highly recommend them!- Melanie F. best-ashburn-arlington-woodbrifge-fairfax-springfield-vienna-va-optometry
"Excellent doctor's office. Everyone is polite and whether you're speaking with the doctor or selecting new frames, you can take your time and they will help you make the best decision for you. They do not try to sell you expensive items you don't need - which happened to me at one of the chain optometrists in the area. Definitely recommend."- Brookes C. best-ashburn-arlington-woodbrifge-fairfax-springfield-vienna-va-optometry
