Optometrist in Fairfax, VA – Benefits of Seeing an Optometrist

If you’ve never been to an optometrist or have been putting off your visit to our office, make sure to schedule your appointment to protect your eye health! Aside from a vision screening, establishing care with an expert optometrist and receiving a comprehensive eye exam can detect early problems. There are many benefits of seeing an optometrist Our optometrist in Fairfax, VA, explains more below.

Early Detection

Many people think that since they have perfect vision, they aren’t at risk for common eye problems. However, this isn’t the case! There are various common eye problems that don’t cause symptoms right away. Having your eyes checked regularly can help detect these issues – thankfully, most vision problems are avoidable at their early stages.

Optometrist Visit Guidelines

You should visit our optometrist early and often. Ideally, babies should have their first eye exam at six months, then follow up with another exam at three years old, and once more at five or six. After the age of six, children should go for yearly comprehensive eye exams through adulthood.

If you have vision problems from an early age or a hereditary eye condition in your family, our optometrist may recommend more frequent visits. Let us know if anyone in your family has an existing eye condition, as at-risk individuals should be tested more often.

What Is a Comprehensive Eye Exam?

A comprehensive eye exam includes the following:

  • Dilated eye examination – Our doctor will look inside your eyes to examine their physical condition.
  • Visual field testing to evaluate your peripheral vision.
  • Refraction testing to test the sharpness of your near and farsightedness
  • Consultation and discussion of your health history – certain medications or other health conditions can impact your vision. We will discuss these with you and ask if you’ve had any recent problems with your vision.

Vision problems can’t always wait for your yearly exam! Conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration often don’t have warning signs. Contact us immediately if you experience vision disturbances like floaters or halos, double vision, sudden vision loss, eye pain, or persistent redness.

I went in for a contact lens exam. The optometrist was great. Very knowledgeable. Took the time to educate me on visual acuity. Was a great resource from a Physician's standpoint. I was leaving for a trip to Costa Rica the following day and was give 10 days worth of contact lens to try. Will return next week to let him know things worked out well and will try another brand of lens!- Naheed M. best-ashburn-arlington-woodbrifge-fairfax-springfield-vienna-va-optometry
Excellent and attentive! I waited for all of five minutes after showing up early to my appointment, and everyone who worked there gave very thorough and detailed explanations of what tests were happening, why, and what the costs were. I've never had such a positive experience at an eye provider. I would highly recommend them!- Melanie F. best-ashburn-arlington-woodbrifge-fairfax-springfield-vienna-va-optometry
"Excellent doctor's office. Everyone is polite and whether you're speaking with the doctor or selecting new frames, you can take your time and they will help you make the best decision for you. They do not try to sell you expensive items you don't need - which happened to me at one of the chain optometrists in the area. Definitely recommend."- Brookes C. best-ashburn-arlington-woodbrifge-fairfax-springfield-vienna-va-optometry
